Riders: Ryan
Beat was on board from day one of planning to ride in the 10"
and 12" Expert classes on our factory bikes. We were horrified
to hear two weeks before Vegas that he had broken his foot while racing
at Glen Helen. We had our fingers crossed that he would heal quickly,
and thankfully, he arrived in Vegas with a slight limp, but no cast.
Skip at Third
Gear Racing was kind enough to set us up with Justin Sipes. We
were planning on having him ride our KLX race bike as he's sponsored
by Kawasaki competing in the Supercross Lites class. Justin also became
injured shortly before Vegas, and unfortunately, he was still on crutches
during the week of the race.
As a result, Dennis Hotson filled in riding the Kawi at the last minute.
Wonder
Warthog Racing had agreed to have Ryan Grantom, who was scheduled
to race the Supercross Lites class the following night, race our second
CRF70. |

Qualifying:
Ryan Beat started in 9th place in the 10" Expert qualifier
and worked his way up to 2nd place, finishing with the fastest lap
time of his group. For the 12" Expert qualifier, Ryan got a
better start and passed Tom Hofmaster for a 1st place finish, and
again, had the fastest lap time of his group.
During practice, Dennis fell victim to our low rider KLX. In an
effort to lower the center of gravity on our Kawi, we machined a
special upper shock mount that lowered the bike considerably. This,
in combination with custom lowered footpeg mounts, resulted in the
pegs getting caught and tearing the mounting posts clean off of
the engine case. Dennis continued to have bad luck as he stalled
the quick reving CRF70 that was kindly loaned to him, as a replacement
for our KLX, during qualifying and didn't make it to the main event.
With little experience on a powerful pitbike, Ryan Grantom showed
decent speed during his qualifier with a 6th place finish. When
he arrived back at the gate to attempt to qualify in the LCQ, we
discovered that qualifiers were running ahead of schedule and Ryan
G., wouldn't have a second chance at the night program.

Main Event - 10"
Expert: Ryan Beat launched off the gate with a good start
running in 3rd place. When Willy Browning, who was leading the race,
pulled off the track because of a clogged fuel breather hose, Ryan
inherited 2nd place as Colt Humphrey took over the 1st place position.
Even when the header came loose on Ryan's bike, he continued to
pull on the third place position held by Jeremy McGrath. Ryan finished
the race in the 2nd place position that he held through most of
the race, and was 1 of only 4 riders that had sub 35 second lap
times.
Main Event - 12" Expert: Ryan Beat's start
in the 12" class wasn't as promising as his 10" class
start. Ryan quickly moved up from 8th into 4th place, where he held
his position throughout the rest of the race. Although he finished
4th in the main event, Ryan had the 3rd fastest lap time of the
race.
Main Event - 35+ Vet: We would also like to acknowledge
Nelson Marsh, who finished 3rd in the Veteran's class on a Reeg
MX CRF70. Nelson purchased one of the bikes (sans motor) that we
built for last year's Las Vegas MiniMoto SX.
